Few other lodging opportunities will highlight the culture of where you’re staying more than a bed and breakfast. They’re so charming, so friendly … it’s so easy to call the place home after plopping your bags down. The hospitality you’ll find at bed and breakfasts is second to none, but at this particular bed and breakfast, you might just get a little more than you bargained for.
The T'frere's House Bed and Breakfast is one of Lafayette's most charming places to stay.
The owners have made great strides in renovating the property to showcase the history of the place while modernizing it, without taking away all the charm that makes this bed and breakfast so special.
... and you very well could be. The bed and breakfast is believed to be haunted by the spirit of Amelie Comeaux, a young woman who lived in the house at the turn of the century.
Sadly, Amelie lost both her husband and her child to yellow fever, who are both buried at a nearby cemetery.
Some stories say that she was so overcome with grief that she took her own life. Some stories tell a different tale, one that involves an affair with someone the community did not agree with and she was pushed into the well. The Catholic Church ruled her death a suicide, and wouldn’t allow her to be buried in the cemetery with her family.
So now, Amelie is trapped in an eternal purgatory, left to wander the grounds forever.
She's known to open and close doors and cabinets, but many guests have heard her walking around in the attic, and in one rare sighting, an employee caught a glimpse of her ghostly apparition in the attic, walking near the chimney. She was wearing a red dress and speaking French. Could this be the ghost of Amelie?
