After a pretty mild winter, it’s time to go out there and soak up the sun before things start to get too hot out there. There is so much beauty and fun for Louisiana folks to enjoy, it can be hard to decide where to take your spring break vacations. Luckily, here at Only In Louisiana we have your back. We’re investigating some of the most exciting places to take a vacation. First up is the amazing Grand Isle:

Getting to Grand Isle means doing some driving over marshes and across bridges. That’s because Grand Isle is one of the last places at the edge of the Louisiana coast.

As we know, many coastal communities are losing their spirit and their population as water begins to creep in and flood the coast. Grand Isle is still hanging in there, however, and it is definitely worth the visit.
One of the first things you may notice about the area is that the vast majority of buildings on Grand Isle are on stilts.

This way, there’s some protection from the water that inevitably washes up during a storm. It also gives the island a fanciful feel.
A huge attraction on the island is the incredible variety of bird watching that is possible here.

Bird lovers gather on the island in mid April (this year is April 15th -17th) to attend the Grand Isle Migratory Bird Festival.

Arguably the most beautiful beaches in Louisiana, the relaxing and gorgeous nature of this island makes it worth the visit.
Unfortunately, the beaches of Grand Isle are eroding at an astounding rate. So if you are thinking about paying a visit—now is the time.
