Catfish is a staple in any good Louisianian’s diet, and lucky for us, they can be caught in just about every body of water in Louisiana. There’s nothing better than sinking your teeth into a piece of fried catfish, and this longstanding restaurant is one of the best places to turn to when you’re in the mood for locally caught fried catfish.
Barrow’s has been a landmark for seafood ever since 1943.
Originally called Barrow’s Shady Inn, the family-owned and operated eatery has stood the test of time, and has even expanded to include a second location in Harvey. Though their original location was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina and the family relocated after the storm, they returned in 2018 to bring back that delicious Barrow’s catfish that locals craved. Now with two locations (one in New Orleans and another in Harvey) Barrow's Catfish is one of the longest-running black-owned restaurants in New Orleans.
No matter which location you visit, you're in for a treat.
This isn't your typical seafood shack. In fact, it's probably the most beautiful restaurant you could eat fried catfish in.

While the star of the show is certainly catfish, you'll find the menu full of tasty options for every palette. From pasta to ribeye, Barrow's does it all.
Again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Pair yours with one of their signature lemonades for the ultimate Barrow's experience. If you've still got room, treat yourself to one of the homemade desserts. Praline cheesecake, lava chocolate cake, or a sinfully delicious bread pudding sounds like the perfect ending to a scrumptious meal, right?
Visit their website for more information including a menu for both of their locations and don’t forget to give them a follow on Facebook so you never miss out on any specialty dishes.
