Looking for something adventurous to do, but can’t think of anything? Whether you’re looking for something that’ll take up an hour or an entire weekend, we’ve found some of the most epic adventures you never thought about doing, but totally should.
1. Spend a night on the beach
Pitch a tent and spend the night under the stars as you listen to the sounds of the crashing beach waves. Sounds like an amazing time, right? You can camp right on the beach at both Holly Beach (Cameron Parish) and the Grand Isle State Park.
2. Zip-line over live alligators
This might be the ultimate epic adventure. The full length zip-line tour consists of seven segments that'll take about 45 minutes and will take you through the woods, over the other exotic animals at the zoo, and the final 720-feet you'll be flying over an alligator pond. Don't look down! Located at 11411 US Hwy. 80, Greenwood, LA 71033.
3. Take a moonlight tour through the bayou
Experience the bayou like never before--at night! With only the moonlight and a flashlight to guide you, you can paddle down the river with an experience tour guide. Tours generally leave two hours before sunset and return about two hours after sunset. Canoe and Trail adventures is located at 24401 US Highway 190, Lacombe, LA 70445.
4. Hike the mountains!
Ok, so maybe they're more like big hills, but they're the closest thing we have to mountains down in "da bayou". Located in Bienville Parish, Driskill Mountain is the highest natural summit in Louisiana, at 535 feet. Its little brother, Jordan Mountain, is 492 feet high so you can knock out both in a day if you wanted to! The picture above shows Jordan Mountain, taken from the Driskill Mountain summit.
5. Check out Prehistoric Park
Henderson Louisiana is home to the state's only attraction dedicated to these prehistoric creatures. Both kids and adults will enjoy their experience here, walking through 12 acres and seeing a variety of realistic dinosaur replicas. Located at 1135 N. Barn Road, Henderson, LA 70517.
6. Go Horseback Riding
Spend a day riding one of these gentle giants. You can ride with a guide or go rogue, whatever you'd like! And there's no time limit, so you can always take a break between sessions. Sunflower Farm is open 7 days a week, so what are you waiting for? They're located at 84080 Pierre Cemetery Road, Folsom, LA 70437.
7. Tube down a river
It's the perfect way to spend a summer day. Floating down the river in an inflatable tube with your favorite people and your favorite beverage. Bring along a waterproof radio so you can play some music and sit back and relax as the current takes you downstream. There are several places that offer this service, Tiki Tubing in Dedham Springs is just one of them. Located at 32625 Hwy 1019, Dedham Springs, LA 70706.
