This Speakeasy Hidden Under A Theater In Louisiana Is Perfect For A Date Night

There aren’t too many basements in New Orleans, but every now and then, The Crescent City surprises us. Did you know there’s a speakeasy in New Orleans? Well, there are actually a few, but today we’d like to focus on the Double Dealer. This speakeasy in New Orleans is relatively new to hit the bar scene in NOLA, and its location might surprise you!
The Orpheum Theater in New Orleans has lived many lives. When it opened in 1921, it was the place to be to see vaudeville theater.
Later, it hosted silent movies, and musical acts, and even became a movie theater for a time. It escaped demolition in the 80s and landed itself on the National Register of Historic Places.
Underneath The Orpheum Theater is where you’ll find the Double Dealer, one of the most unique bars in New Orleans.
As you would expect from a speakeasy, the entrance is unmarked. Look for a pair of double doors and the Double Dealer logo, and you should find it with no problems.
Once you enter, you’ll head downstairs (there’s also an elevator) and you’re in.

Each room at the Double Dealer has a unique theme, and it’s worth your while to wander around to check everything out.
The Double Dealer magazine ran from 1921-1926 and featured the early works of many iconic Southern writers including William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, and Thornton Wilder.
Fun fact, the magazine was one of the first to publish Faulkner’s work!
