Known as the "Crawfish Capital of the World," this tiny town in St. Martin Parish is perfect for anyone looking for some peace and quiet for a couple of days. There are awesome cabins that you can stay in, and while you’re in the area be sure to check out Lake Martin for some wildlife viewing and incredible views.
5. Grand Isle
Why not spend a couple of days on the beach? Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t sink your toes in the sand. Since Louisiana winter’s don’t get too terribly cold, a trip to Grand Isle this time of year could be just what you need. The Grand Isle State Park is a bird water’s paradise, and the beach is great for just walking along and collecting your thoughts. Plus, you can camp on the beach, so if the temperatures aren’t too low, bring a tent for a memorable night of camping under the stars while listening to the waves crash onto the shore.
6. Alexandria
Often overlooked, Alexandria is a perfect place to spend a couple of days. For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s no better place since you’re surrounded by the Kisatchie National Forest, and foodies will love all of the local restaurants in the area. There are several holiday events taking place throughout the month of December, and you certainly won’t want to miss Holiday Night Safari at the Alexandria Zoo on December 14th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
7. St. Francisville
For a truly relaxing, country vibe, head over to St. Francisville. Not only does this town have the most charming downtown area and historic district, but it’s also home to some truly amazing restaurants and plantations. Speaking of plantations, St. Francisville is home to the Myrtles Plantation, which is known as the most haunted plantation in the country. It’s been converted into a b&b so if you have the guts, you can spend a night in this historic plantation and who knows? You may just catch a glimpse of a spirit or two.
