After our first article on the most charming towns in Louisiana, we heard from a lot of you guys that there were ones we missed. Here are 10 more of the most charming and historic towns from throughout the state that you don’t want to miss, pulled straight from your suggestions!
1) Thibodaux
Parish seat of Lafourche Parish, Thibodaux is home to Nicholls State University and the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center.
2) Abbeville
Incorporated in 1850, Abbeville downtown centers around Magdalen Square and is home to the beloved C. S. Steen Syrup Mill.
3) Grand Coteau
Home to around 1000 people, Grand Coteau is one of the few primarily rural districts on the National Register of Historic Places. It offers over 70 structures deemed historically significant, including this Church of St. Charles Borromeo.
4) Breaux Bridge
Known as the crawfish capitol of the world, Breaux Bridge sits on the Atchafalaya river and offers culture and small town comfort to all of its residents and visitors. Pictured here, musicians get down at the annual crawfish festival.
5) Ponchatoula
Home to the iconic Louisiana Strawberry Festival, Pontchatoula offers something for visitors all year round, including a converted train depot that now serves as the Country Market, pictured here.
6) Rayne
Known as the frog capital of the world, Rayne makes an excellent stop for art lovers because of its numerous murals painted throughout the town. What do they feature? You guessed it—frogs!
7) St. Martinville
Established in 1817, St. Martinville visitors make sure to check out Evangeline Oak park, centered around the ancient live oak tree on Bayou Teche that was named after the Longfellow poem, Evangeline, which mentions St. Martinville.
8) New Iberia
Another historic town on Bayou Teche, New Iberia offers beautiful architectures, a bustling downtown, and much more to visitors and residents.
9) Cottonport
This historic town in the center of the State is nestled on the banks of Bayou Rouge, where the annual Cottonport Christmas Pagent (pictured here) is held each year.
10) Minden
This historic town was incorporated in 1836 and has been a favorite spot in north Louisiana for visitors and locals alike. For many years, Minden was home to a Coca-Cola bottling plant, which is now only a distribution center.
