Even though its summer and the weather can be a bit unbearable, you should still carve out some time to get outside and explore Louisiana’s stunning natural surroundings. This beautiful bridge hike in Louisiana is just the ticket for when you need some peace and quiet, and the scenery you’ll see along the way will completely mesmerize you.
Nestled in the heart of Baton Rouge, the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is a delightful family-friendly attraction that is the perfect destination for a day trip.
The 103-acre nature conservation park was opened in 1997 and has been a favorite attraction for locals and visitors alike - it’s certainly worthy of a road trip if you don’t live in the area!
When you arrive, be sure to pop into the main exhibit building, an incredible 9,500-square-foot facility that includes both live animal exhibits and displays featuring the park’s wildlife and plant life.
The boardwalk, bridge, and gravel trails will lead you through the stunning beech-magnolia and hardwood forests, as well as a bald cypress-tupelo swamp.
The Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center also hosts a night hike once per season that'll give you the opportunity to see the swamp in a whole new light (…or rather, lack of light).
Address: 10503 North Oak Hills Parkway, Baton Rouge, LA, 70810
For more information, including admission prices and details about upcoming special events, be sure to check out the nature center’s website and follow them on Facebook.
