The Small Town In Louisiana That Will Capture Your Heart

The city got its name from Acadian pioneer Firmin Breaux, who started buying land in what is now Breaux Bridge. In 1799, he built a footbridge across Bayou Teche to make it easier for his neighbors to get across the Bayou. A few years later in 1817, Breaux’s son, Agricole Breaux build the first vehicular bridge, which allowed wagons to cross the bayou—which increased commerce in the area greatly.

Breaux Bridge restaurants were the first to offer crawfish on their menus. In fact, Breaux Bridge is where the famous dish crawfish étouffée was created.

This massive lake has several walking trails offering beautiful views and jaw dropping sunsets. You’ll see tons of wildlife, as it’s home to hundreds of gators, turtles, nutria, snakes, and much more. There’s also a huge bird rookery so you’ll see scores of egrets, herons, pelicans, and more.
