Borden’s is a Lafayette treasure, making ice cream the old fashioned way. Let’s take a closer look at why this place has stood the test of time.

Borden’s Ice Cream Parlor opened up on Johnston Street in Lafayette in 1940.

It’s the last of the Borden’s retail stores in the country.

While many owners have come and gone through the years, the interior still maintains that old school ice cream parlor charm.

When you walk in, you’ll be hit with a wave of nostalgia. From the ceilings to the cash register, you’ll be surrounded by relics from the past.

If you’ve ever been to Borden’s, chances are you were helped by Ella Meaux. Ella Meaux has worked in the parlor since since 1961.

She was certainly an icon at the parlor, and remembers generations of customers. She retired on April 25, 2017, after 56 years at the parlor.

Obviously, one of the reasons this place has stood the test of time is the ice cream.

They have the best shakes, malts, banana splits, or ice cream by the cup or the cone. It’s ice cream made the "old-fashoned way".

And they sell more than just ice cream.
