If you’ve ever been to Louisiana, you know we have some truly kooky people with some relatively strange beliefs. But researching these bizarre Louisiana superstitions definitely convinced me it’s all a lot more strange than I thought! These myths come from the Cajun, Creole, and West African cultures that have heavily influenced culture in Louisiana. Here are some of the most strange Louisiana myths and old wives tales we could find:
1. Had an alligator crawl under your house? Watch out! It could mean that there will be a death in your family soon.
2. If the mirror doesn’t feel like enough protection from the devil, try drilling a hole in a dime and wearing it around your neck. Spitting three times also increases your defense.
3. For those looking to protect themselves from devil, hang a mirror outside your door. The devil is so vain, he’ll get stuck watching himself and leave you alone.
12. Ever get an itch? Cajun rumor is that if your left hand itches you’ll come into some cash, and if your right hand itches an old friend is on the way.
