We’ve often said that the best restaurants are the ones that are hiding slightly off the beaten path. They’re the neighborhood restaurants that only locals know about, the ones where you can walk inside and be greeted on a first-name basis by the staff, and where you’ll probably recognize at least one other person while you’re there. Bellue’s in Baton Rouge certainly fits the bill, and this hidden gem is certainly worth a pit stop if you find yourself with a hankering for some home-cooked Cajun cuisine.
You’ll find Bellue’s on the outskirts of Baton Rouge in an industrial stretch of the city.
The cabin vibe will make you feel right at home. The cozy little space has a few tables scattered around the joint, so be sure to get there early to beat the lunch rush and ensure a seat for yourself.
Bellue has utilized his welding knowledge to build some next-level kitchen equipment that would make even the most seasoned chef jealous. His temperature-controlled batch cooker can handle anywhere from 600 to 1,000 pounds at a time.
Everything is measured using recipes that are decades old and cooked the exact same way. So you can bet that the gumbo is going to taste the same as it did back in the '70s.
From crawfish étouffée to baby back ribs, the menu as a wide range of home-cooked meals.
You’ll find all of their popular dishes in frozen form, ready to heat and eat. It's perfect for those nights when you want a home-cooked meal but don’t have the time to prepare it for yourself.
Bellue’s is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For more information, including a full menu, be sure to check out their website and follow them on Facebook.
