It may not officially be spring quite yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sink your toes in the sand with a boozy beverage and soak up some sun. Louisiana’s mild climate allows us to enjoy outdoor activities all year long, so next time you find yourself in Jefferson Parish, consider popping over to this unique bar & grill that just so happens to be the largest sand volleyball complex in the country!
Coconut Beach Sports Complex has been a local favorite since it opened in 1988.
Its original location was in the West End area of New Orleans, but it moved to Kenner in 2012 to allow the Army Corps of Engineers to use its former property during the construction of the 17th Street Canal Pumping Station.
Featuring 22 outdoor volleyball courts, this massive man-made beach stretches across 100,000 square feet, making it the largest sand volleyball complex in the United States.
There are plenty of different leagues to join for all different skill levels, and the upcoming spring leagues begin on March 12, 2019. You can sign up for a six-person team, a four-person quad team, or doubles team. Each league plays on a different day, and it’s a great way to get active, have fun with friends, and make a few new ones along the way!
If you don't want to join a league, you can still play for free on any court that's not being used for a league or tournament.
If you don’t own a volleyball, you can rent one for $10.
Coconut Beach Sports Complex is located at 100 Coconut Beach Ct., Kenner, LA 70065 and is open Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight. For more information about Coconut Beach, league information, and a peek at the menu, check out its website here and follow along on its Facebook page here.
