Getting out and about during the winter in Kentucky can sometimes be a challenge. It can get brutally cold, and the sun sets too early. However, Newport Aquarium located on Newport on Levee, just across the river from Cincinnati, can make a great day trip. You get be indoors, away from the winter weather, and experience one of the best aquariums in the country. And since it’s located on Newport on the Levee, there are plenty of other activities, shops, and restaurants all around you.
Welcome to Newport on the Levee in Newport, KY. It's located right on the banks of the Ohio River, and has a gorgeous view of the Cincinnati skyline. There are numerous options for things to do for a fun winter day trip.
You can get up close and personal with the thousands of different sea animals, and even touch some of them. Newport Aquarium has 70 exhibits and 14 galleries.
In 2007, the Newport Aquarium started the first captive breeding program for shark rays. Sweet Pea became the first shark ray ever to get pregnant and give birth in captivity.
There's more than just fish, though. The Aquarium has several different types of other animals, like penguins, otters, snakes, turtles, lorikeets, alligators, frogs, and more.
After touring the aquarium, there is so much more to do on Newport on the Levee. Finish your Christmas shopping, get a bite to eat, or enjoy their daily Christmas light shows that will continue until January 1.
