Most residents of Kentucky can (hopefully) name the best natural features of our state, and one that should top the list is Cumberland Falls. Known as the “Niagara of the South,” it is Kentucky’s largest waterfall and a popular place for photos, hiking, and just standing in awe of our state’s beauty. But there are other ways to experience the falls and perhaps the easiest option is with Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. They offer a few rafting trips that get you impossibly close to Kentucky’s largest waterfall and show you Cumberland Falls like you’ll never experience from the trails.
Cumberland Falls is a majestic sight in Kentucky that everyone needs to see at least once.
The resort offers a few different trips along the river and there is something for everyone. Even babies are allowed on the Rainbow Mist Ride, where a guide does all the work and you just sit back and relax.

This 30-45 minute trip meets up inside Cumberland Falls State Resort Park and they have everything you'll need for a little adventure.
All ages are welcome on the ride and it's an affordable and accessible way for the entire family to see the falls up close. While you can't (and wouldn't want to) be directly under the falls, you will get so close that you'll gain a great perspective for its size.

If you'd like a longer adventure, try a rafting trip on the Cumberland River.
These trips are offered May through October and participants must be at least 6 years old and 40 lbs. The all day excursion begins at the falls, where you'll paddle right up to it to start off the outing.
Lunch is served on this trip and the day makes for a wonderful family adventure. You can choose the best river trip for your family on the Resort's website here.
Water activities aren't the only things offered by Sheltowee Trace, so it is easy to make a vacation out of this one area.
Choose from RV or tent camping, cabin rentals, or even spend the night in a covered wagon for a unique and memorable getaway. Read all about this experience here.
Cumberland Falls, as Kentucky's largest waterfall, is a must see for anyone who wants to see the best of our state's natural wonder.
It's a magnificent sight from the ground, but there is nothing quite like getting impossibly close to the falls directly from the water.
