When you eat at a legendary restaurant in Kentucky, you’re not only going to enjoy great food, but you’re going to be a part of a long-honored tradition. Countless memories are made at these tables and in the bar stools and thankfully, many places of this sort exist around the Bluegrass State. The Food Network loves to recognize these eateries and recently named what they consider to be the best diner in Kentucky. Wagner’s Pharmacy in Louisville is definitely deserving of such an honor and if you have yet to try it, make plans to visit soon.
Right across the street from Churchill Downs you'll find Wagner's, also known as Wagner's Pharmacy by many.
This iconic diner originated in 1922 when Leo Wagner purchased Hagen’s Pharmacy, where he worked. He changed things up a bit and it became a popular place for horsemen to pick up essentials after leaving the track.
No longer a pharmacy of any kind, Wagner's is more of an institution than a restaurant.
You'll still find those who work across the street at Churchill Downs stop by for a meal, but you'll also find other regulars, college students, tourists, and those curious about this Kentucky gem.
