I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
It’s pretty darn great to be a kid in Kentucky. Not only is our state full of amazing world-class attractions and destinations, but our outdoor recreation is accessible and inclusive, making everything from cave exploration to high-flying fun within reach to Kentucky’s littlest adventurers. Even our playgrounds are next level. Whether it’s the nature playscape at Bernheim Arboretum, or, as with today’s feature destination, a barn and farm-themed playground in Crestwood, Kentucky, the Bluegrass is the best state to be a kid.
The Maples Park is the very first park owned and managed by the City of Crestwood. The land was actually purchased from a local family in 2005 under the stipulation that it be used for creating opportunities for recreation, environmental exploration, and entertainment for the community.
These 22 acres, known historically as “The Maples” due to the abundant maple trees along the former entry road, was once used for small-scale boutique farming and countryside recreation. Today, Maples Park remains true to its agrarian roots, with a themed playground that's absolutely delightful.
In addition to its playground equipment, which features barn and silo play structures and tractor-themed slides, Maples Park offers other features that take it from mere playground to community cornerstone. From its picture-perfect Dennis Deibel Barn, a space for community events and enjoyment...
...to its incredible spray ground, a fun spot for Kentucky kids to cool off during the summertime, Maples Park really is a delight of a place to visit.
Of course, there's more to this Kentucky park than themed playground equipment and children's activities. Maples Park also boasts some paved walking trails that are scenic all year-round, but downright divine during the height of fall foliage!
So whether you're a kid of a grown-up, visiting in the winter, spring, summer, or fall, you'll agree there's no place in Kentucky quite like Maples Park.
