Located between Anderson and Woodford Counties, the Jo Blackburn Bridge (also known as the Tyrone Bridge) is a historic bridge in Kentucky that curves its way across the river. Its “S” shape and unique structure make it the only one of its kind in the U.S. and worthy of a trip to drive across this one-of-a-kind bridge in Kentucky.
Situated over the Kentucky River between Woodford and Anderson Counties, the Jo Blackburn Bridge is one of two bridges in this historic spot.
This historic bridge in Kentucky was built in 1932 and is the grey, lower bridge in the photo above. Its shape is unique, but its structure also makes it extremely rare.
The bridge is U.S. HWY 62 and it literally forms an "S" as it crosses the Kentucky River.
You can drive across the bridge today, and many do. It's a very scenic and unique spot in our state and makes for a great destination while on a road trip around this area of Kentucky.
If you're looking for an area for a scenic drive, this is a great option. Take 62 from Versailles to Lawrenceburg and you'll not only cross over the bridge but drive near iconic distilleries and horse farms.
When you drive across the Tyrone Bridge, be sure to look over to the adjacent Young's High Bridge.
The photo above was taken from Young's and looks out over the Tyrone Bridge. Vertigo Bungee sets up shop on this bridge, which means you can bungee jump in Kentucky, right between these two historic bridges.
Another unique way to view both of these bridges is with a train ride with the Bluegrass Railroad Museum.
The train stops halfway through the ride and you are able to hop off and view the bridges. Be sure to look for the "S" curve in the Jo Blackburn Bridge and bungee jumpers off the High Bridge, while enjoying a stop at this historic destination in Kentucky.
This historic bridge in Kentucky offers so many unique features. Its “S” shape and structure may stand out the most, but it also leads to a famous distillery and you may see bungee jumpers as you drive across. Not every bridge can claim that!
