The Newport Aquarium is a must-see destination in northern Kentucky that's filled with wonderful underwater life and tons of fun. It's open year round and always has something going on, but in the winter, the aquarium welcomes a very special guest.
From November 23 through December 31, Santa takes a break from walking in a winter wonderland to scuba dive in the water wonderland at Newport Aquarium. Apparently, he is not only magical, but brave as well, as he dives cheerfully into the shark tank.
Santa is available to chat with visitors with the help of his elves at designated times each day. You can check the exact schedule here to plan your trip accordingly.
While you're there to see Santa, be sure to take advantage of everything the aquarium has to offer. The collection of undersea life is very impressive and there is something for all ages to enjoy.
The aquarium is divided into many different sections to make your way through, and you are free to spend as much time wherever you like. A favorite spot - and a very appropriate one for winter - is the penguin exhibit, where you can sit and watch these playful animals and learn more about them.
The Shark Bridge is also an exciting spot and will likely be the last thing you do before exiting the aquarium. It's free to cross and you can do it as many times as you like.
The aquarium is located at Newport on the Levee, which is full of holiday spirit on its own. With restaurants, activities, and sparkling lights, there's plenty here to warrant a trip from anywhere in Kentucky.
