As is the fate of many historic buildings, there are properties in Kentucky that have unfortunately fallen into disrepair, with their former lives all but forgotten. Thankfully, some of these structures have been saved and preserved, continuing on with a new purpose and vision for the future. In the town of Paris, a local family has spent the past year restoring a historic train depot and transforming it into a lovely restaurant. This former Kentucky depot is now Trackside at the Depot, a beautiful dining destination right on the tracks, and you’ll want to check it out.
This Paris, Kentucky building was originally built in 1882 as a train passenger depot. While it served its purpose for a number of years, recently it sat empty, in need of repair and purpose.
That's exactly what this historic place received. While the trains still run right along the tracks in front of the building, it now welcomes restaurant guests rather than passengers coming and going.
The depot was transformed into Trackside at the Depot - a beautiful restaurant that pays homage to the building's past, while also stepping confidently into the present with a delicious menu and modern decor.
Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant are elegant, yet welcoming, and ideal for a comforting meal. It has a classic feel to it, but with a 21st-century appeal, though still retains many historic touches that remind you of the building's previous life.
The Poynter family, who renovated the space, kept many of the train depot touches and preserved its charm. They perfectly utilized the space so that diners feel at home, while also imagining as if they could hop on a passing train at any moment.
Since the restaurant opened in late 2018, the outdoor patio has quickly become a guest favorite. Even on chilly evenings, you can relax by one of the fire pits, enjoy a drink, and watch for any trains that may greet you.
The menu at Trackside was masterfully created to reflect the classic southern dishes we all love here in Kentucky. You'll find the Hot Brown on the menu, as well as fried chicken that rivals any others in the area.
The menu changes a bit from time to time, but you can always expect to find scrumptious classics, large portions, and fresh flavors. You can stay up-to-date on the menu by following along with the restaurant on Facebook (linked below).
Trackside at the Depot has quickly become a favorite dining destination in this area, so if you plan on visiting, consider making a reservation. You won't be disappointed by the historic charm, inviting atmosphere, delicious food, and trackside location of this beautiful new restaurant in Kentucky.
Trackside at the Depot is located at 134 East 10th St., Paris, KY 40361. The restaurant is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and for brunch on Sunday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. For more information, follow along on Facebook here and visit its website here.
