I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. I have lived elsewhere twice, but keep coming back. I'm a video editor and freelance writer who enjoys watching people wearing University of Louisville uniforms excel at sports, scaling the faces of large rocks, and hanging out with my border collie/laborador/cattle dog mutt thingy that I have.
Edmonton, KY is a town in Metcalfe County with just over 1,500 residents. This town in the south central part of the state may be small and off the beaten path, but what many people don’t know is that it is home to one of the best restaurants in the state, The Lighthouse Restaurant. If you find yourself hungry while driving through the meandering country roads of Metcalfe County, seriously consider making a stop here. You definitely won’t leave hungry.
The Lighthouse Restaurant is located in the community of Sulphur Well, which is about 15 minutes north of downtown Edmonton. The drive to the restaurant takes you along some scenic roads, and the restaurant itself is just across the street from Sulphur Well Park. Walk off some of that huge meal you just ate while enjoying the natural surroundings.
The Lighthouse Restaurant serves down home country cooking. The menu is full of items that will remind you of food your grandma used to make— fried chicken, country ham, catfish, ribeye steak, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, homemade biscuits, lima beans, fried apples, green beans, and more.
People rave about their country ham and how it's the most perfect ham they have ever eaten. Order it on a sandwich with fries or just by itself, doused in red-eye gravy with biscuits.
One of the things they’re best known for is their "family style" meals at a Lazy Susan table. A family style meal means you are going to get plates piled high with catfish, fried chicken, and country ham. Even more plates full of sides like cole slaw, sliced tomatoes, green beans, creamy stewed potatoes, lima beans, fried apples, and red-eye gravy and biscuits will surround you. It’s an all-you-can-eat experience that you can share with your family, made easier by the rotating Lazy Susan tables.
The week of Thanksgiving, you can even get a homemade turkey dinner. They are usually closed on Thanksgiving and a couple of days around it to observe the holiday, but they still have this as a special leading up to it.
The Lighthouse Restaurant is located at 1500 Sulpher Well Knob Lick Road, Edmonton, KY 42129. For more information, check out their website.
