Kentucky is full of wonderful and amazing restaurants that delight our senses, many of which do so by the sheer scale of the place. Yet, there are tiny restaurants hidden about the Bluegrass State which are diminutive in size and huge in flavor. Cozy little places like this where it’s just you and a handful of other diners can make the dining experience feel more special. This is certainly the case at Heirloom Restaurant in Midway, Kentucky.
The vibrant yet quaint storefront provides a few extra seats outside when the weather is nice to increase your chances of being able to try the delicious menu at this fantastic establishment.
Upon entering, you’ll find that there are just a handful of tables, some seats at the small bar, and a few high-backed booths which afford a sense of comfort and privacy while not feeling at all cramped.
Heirloom prides itself on delectable fare curated by chef Mark H. Wombles who has a love of heirloom produce and antiques and wishes to express this through his unique culinary talents. For example, the charcuterie board features Manchego, House Beer Cheese, French Brie, Country Ham, Local Jam, Crostini, and Olives. What an appetizer!
The entrees are nothing short of spectacular. This Bone-in Berkshire Pork with Carrot Puree, Broccolini Saute, and Hazelnut Butter looks utterly mouthwatering.
Another fine dish is this duck breast served with goat cheese polenta, haricot verts, and old-fashioned agrodolce. Savory and scrumptious! Of course, there is a wonderful list of wines to pair with every meal.
For something on the lighter side, you’ve got to try the Warm Spinach Salad with Bacon, Red Wine Vinaigrette, Roasted Red Peppers, and Goat Cheese, all topped with Crispy Fried Onion.
While you’ll want to gorge on all the tantalizing food here, it would be a shame to not save room for dessert. There’s a wonderful selection of various tarts, mousses, and sorbets, and you can’t miss with this Blueberries N Cream dessert with Blueberry Financier, Blueberry Compote, Lemon Cream, Blueberry-Lavender Buttermilk Ice Cream, Local Blueberries, and Whipped Cream.
