If you live in the Bluegrass State, then you are probably lucky enough to be close to a beautiful Kentucky nature scene within a short drive or maybe even a quick walk. Our state has endless hiking trails, parks, caves, and bodies of water where we can escape and rejuvenate ourselves in the fresh air. Carter Caves State Resort Park in eastern Kentucky is a unique destination where you can experience a little bit of everything the outdoors has to offer. And if you have to pick one hike in the area, escape to the Three Bridges Trail for what is absolutely a beautiful Kentucky nature scene.
The Three Bridges Trail is located within Carter Caves State Resort Park and is just over three miles long. It's a great length and with a moderate level of difficulty, you can escape into nature without a strenuous climb or a way off the grid location.
The trail gets its name from the three natural bridges that you'll see along the way. Fern Bridge, Raven Bridge, and Smoky Bridge (the park's largest) keep things interesting as you hike through the woods.
This area is known for its caves and rock formations and the Three Bridges Trail is no exception. This trail is best in spring, summer, or fall when things aren't too icy, but it is open all year long.
Each natural bridge has its own character and story and you'll love exploring each one. The trail is easy to follow with clear markings and it makes a loop so you'll never get bored.
Spend time exploring each bridge and the rocky areas that surround them. Please remember to leave no trace of your visit and take out whatever you bring in.
Another surprise along this scenic trail are the views you'll get to experience, especially when the trees are still missing some leaves. You will feel away from it all when you escape into Kentucky's natural beauty on this diverse trail.
