I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
With the hottest month of the summer coming up, finding a nice place to cool off is a popular thing to do. Driving out to a crowded spot isn’t always appealing. Instead, opt for going to a little-known lake in Kentucky, like Taylorsville Lake State Park. When compared to Land Between the Lakes and Cumberland Falls, this underappreciated body of water just doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Here are 12 reasons to visit this little-known lake in Kentucky:
Anyone can rent a boat, but the skijet allows you to really get in touch with your surroundings on a physical level. Instead of riding across the water, you're partially in it. Some water enthusiasts find this more exhilarating then boating.
The first view of this beautiful lake shows you sparkling water and a field of green. There are plenty of shady trees and flat rock areas to sit and fish or water gaze comfortably.
No matter where on this lake you do it… you will do it well. The fish are plentiful and usually hungry, especially sunfish. The catfish will usually bite if you use the right bait, but you have to find that sweet spot.
Taylorsville is perfect to ski behind a boat in some areas. Some people paddle board instead of ski, as that doesn’t require a boat. Of course, you can also rent a pontoon boat for the day or weekend, but no grilling is allowed on deck.
You can take a walk in the woods and embrace the beauty of nature, or watch the forest happenings from a boat. Either way, if the woodland beings make an appearance, you are sure to be entertained. Just watch your Doritos… raccoons love them.
The Blue Heron makes its home on Taylorsville Lake and can be spectacular to watch. They are truly majestic water fowl, graceful as they fish and fly. You can watch from the shore or from a boat.
Taylorsville Lake State Park has 45 RV spaces, all of which provide electricity and water. There are 15 marked primitive sites available that have water also. There are also several playgrounds nearby.
There isn't anything more breathtaking than watching the sun set or rise over the lake. The vivid colors and lulling woodland sounds are difficult to put into words… but memorizing comes to mind.
