Kentucky has its own character, flavor and natural beauty. It’s surprising in many ways, except to those who have always been here. For anyone who has moved into the Bluegrass State, there are several things you must quickly learn to become a true Kentuckian.
Kentucky has been dubbed, "The Bluegrass State," but its grass is actually green, not blue. The grass is said to give off a blueish tint, but most Kentuckians haven't seen it.
As you meet people across the state and inquire where they are from, do not be surprised if they tell you a county. Maybe it's because many schools are by county or maybe we just have county pride.

And just so you know, you have to pick a side. Whether you bleed blue or red, college basketball is a way of life in Kentucky.

Kentucky is home to so many distilleries that there is even a designated trail you can take to visit many of them. If you live in Kentucky, you should probably know a little something about bourbon.
For some reason, Frankfort is a lesser known state capital, so you better learn this piece of trivia. While you're at it, go ahead and visit, it's a nice place!
Basically, it's not Looey-ville. It may be a slight distinction, but when you're in Kentucky, it does matter how you say the state's largest city.

Consider it a nod to Kentucky's friendly residents, as the southern word, "y'all," is used quite a bit. In case you didn't know, it means "you all."
When you move to Kentucky and decide to invite your new neighbors over for a meal, be sure to ask them to join you for supper, not dinner.
Kentucky is a southern state, after all, so when you ask for iced tea, expect it to be of the sweet variety. Actually, don't even bother ordering unsweetened, just enjoy the delight that is old-fashioned sweet tea.
