I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Everyone has likes and dislikes, and sometimes these things go according to state. Not to sound stereotypical or anything, but it can often be true. Some state polls have shown this can be realistic, to an extent. There are always exceptions to the rules.
Now, back to stereotyping. Here are 15 things that “many” people in Kentucky love:
15. We have a variety of hunting seasons, like anywhere else. In Kentucky, this is celebrated almost as a rite of passage, for boys to achieve manhood.
13. We have some of the most beautiful state parks in the country, which contain lush forests, and jagged gorges to elegant waterfalls. Places like Red River Gorge and Cumberland Falls are renowned for their beauty.
7. We host a variety of festivals. Some of the most well known are the Bluegrass Music Fest, World Fest, Forecastle Fest, Reggae Festival, and the renowned Bourbon festival. We’ll get to the Bourbon Fest at #2.
5. Many consider Kentucky to be the origin of Bluegrass music. Some of the best music heard at the state fair can be from Jug bands with a Washtub bass.
1. We have been running the Kentucky Derby and Oaks for well over a century, along with the celebrated Keeneland races. Louisville Kentucky was deemed "Derby City" decades ago.
You will seldom meet a Kentuckian who hasn’t been to the Derby at least once, or sampled a sip of bourbon. It is possible you will meet that one person who never has… buts don’t expect it. I’ve been told that is just an urban legend.
For those that would like to add or respond to the 15 things that many Kentuckians love, I’d like to hear what you think.
