A brand new, built from scratch building definitely has its appeal, but there is something extra special about a historic building that’s been restored. When the bones are there and the history is long, we’d much rather see a longstanding building repurposed so the community can continue to support it. This is the story of The Standard in Covington. Formerly a 1930s garage, it is now a cool eatery and hang out in Kentucky where you’ll love the atmosphere, food, drinks, and attention to detail when honoring The Standard’s past.
If you're familiar with Covington and you've ever driven past 5th and Main, you would have seen this former garage next to the train tracks.
Like so many buildings around Kentucky, it sat like this, housing so many stories from its past. It now has a new life as a restaurant, bar, and hang out in Kentucky.
Believe it or not, this is the same property and where you'll find The Standard in Covington.
The atmosphere at The Standard is one of its greatest assets. It's the ideal spot to meet up with a friend for a drink or stop by for a meal with the kids as they enjoy the kid-friendly area outside. The outdoor dining here is fun and relaxing.
It's an eclectic mix of modern neon and automotive decor. You can dine inside as well and right now they are open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner, but follow along on Facebook, linked below, to stay up-to-date.
The surprising decor makes for such a fun dining experience, but the food and drinks are also a highlight.
The menu is divided into "Starts" and "Mains," but we highly recommend ordering a few things and sharing. The flavor combinations are unique and tasty and you can see the current menu on The Standard's Facebook page.
The Standard is a great addition to the fantastic Covington restaurant scene, as this city has really become a foodie destination.
And if you have an appreciation for restoration and reinvented spaces, you'll definitely want to visit The Standard and see and taste all of the details for yourself.
This hang out in Kentucky offers delicious and unique food and drinks in a vibrant atmosphere. You won’t forget The Standard’s roots as you relax amongst tires and garage tools, but you’ll surely enjoy your time at this cool eatery in Covington.
