Kentucky is a beautiful state where peace and tranquility can be found from border to border. This however does not mean that we don’t experience our share of strange happenings. The Bluegrass State has its share of weird people and incidents, just like anywhere else. As southerners, we’re just a bit quieter about them.
12. Snake in the Pool
The "Turtleman" was accused of trying to get more media attention for his animal planet show by putting Cottonmouths in a Danville Public Pool in June of 2013. He then "saved the day" by removing these dangerous snakes, but failed to get permission to air the daring rescue, or the deceptive means by which the snakes got in the pool to begin with.
11. Library Justice
A Kentucky Lt Governor candidate was arrested March 13th, 2015 for an 11 year old overdue library book. Initially pulled over for a traffic violation, this politician was then charged with a misdemeanor for his way overdue book.
10. Glued to Your Seat
In June 2012, a women shopping at the Monticello Walmart found herself in a sticky situation. While using the department store restroom, she found herself unable to get up. After 60 minutes of struggling, 911 was called and managed to detach the seat from the toilet. The seated woman was then taken to the hospital to have the extra cushion removed from her tush. The incident was blamed on a super glue prank.
9. Firehouse Porn Star
A 27 year old porn actor visiting Louisville Kentucky in May, 2013, broke into a local fire station. One fireman got a rude awakening as he caught the actor red handed, masturbating on gear he had taken from their personal lockers. The finding fireman stated the completely self absorbed actor didn’t even acknowledge him due to intoxication.
8. Frozen Solid
In October 2012, a 61 year old Veteran sued the VA for making him lose part of his Penis. Apparently a nurse packed his privates in ice and left them there for a total of 19 hours after the surgery, causing frostbite, followed by Gangrene. He lost 5 ‘and had to have reconstructive surgery in order to urinate.
7. Wanted, Princess Elsa
Harlan officials in February placed the following statement on social media after a winter storm left over 1" of snow, which blamed the prime character in ‘Frozen" for the disaster. "Wanted: Suspect is a blonde female, last seen wearing a long blue dress, and is known to burst into song, ‘Let it Go’!" "As you can see by the weather, she is very dangerous". Needless to say, every child fan of ‘Frozen’ was in tears. The statement, though in good humor, was later retracted to calm the children.
6. The Birds
Back in January 2012, Lagrange came close to making a sequel to the original film, "The Birds", minus all the killing. Thousands of Blackbirds decided to call the small town home causing excessive poo issues to the point people carried umbrellas for protection. The town tried everything from air cannons to loud music to scare the flock, but they kept returning. Lagrange still has a lot of birds, but residents no longer have to carry umbrellas to protect them from poo.
5. Carpet Munching
A 50 year old man was caught red handed actually eating carpet lint at Louisville’s Burlington Coat Factory in May 2013. Apparently smoking crystal meth causes carpet cravings, as he admitted to using it before getting his lunch craving.
4. Dead in Traffic
A Louisville mechanic got creative a few Halloween’s back and redid his Jeep. The redo included a new steering wheel, and skeleton driver deemed Mister Bonz. Andrew Johnson roams around the city chauffeured by his skeleton and frightening residents and visitors, as it looks quite real. Johnson controls the Jeep from the passenger side, but that is not apparent from the outside.
3. Orange is Not the New Black for Amish
In 2011, Amish buggy drivers were ordered to place bright orange signs on their buggies for safety. The Amish Old Order of Swartzentruber used reflective tape, citing the triangular symbol conflicted with a religious sign. Eventually 8 Amish men were sentenced to jail time, but given black uniforms instead of the standard orange.
2. What a Gas
A man in Jenkins needed gas, and the closest way to get it was a police vehicle. Thus, in April 2012, Michael Baker siphoned gas from an officer’s car. He was so proud of his stealthy actions, he posted images of the entire incident on Facebook. Needless to say he was arrested.
1. Ceramic Chicken VS Bra
In April 2015, a 31 year old Lexington women forced her way into a 61 year old women’s home, attempting to strangle her with a bra. The 61 year old fought back and won the battle by striking the 31 year old repeatedly with a ceramic chicken. The younger women was rendered unconscious by said chicken, and then arrested.
Alongside some of the other states, our “weird” is probably considered mild, or at least minimal. Still, these are all unique happenings that one doesn’t hear about every day. Likely there are other strange events that have taken place, but as mentioned earlier, southerners keep their secrets well.
