I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Here at OnlyInYourState, we have an unabashed love of bridges. Whether it’s a charming covered bridge, massive architectural marvel, or even a natural bridge, we love all things bridges here in the Bluegrass State. But there’s one that stands quite literally above the rest, and that’s the High Bridge in Wilmore, Kentucky. One of the tallest railroad trestles in the country, this is definitely a destination for your Bluegrass bridge bucket list!
Kentucky has a deep connection with railroads, with trains a crucial part of our state's development, history, and present-day commerce.
Once upon a time railroads were ubiquitous in Kentucky, running all throughout the state to transport coal and other Kentucky-mined treasures cross-country. There are many trains that use Kentucky railways to this day, including the Norfolk Southern Train.
As part of the busiest north-south rail route in the nation, it is still used heavily today, in fact -- but you don't have to be a train conductor or signalman to enjoy this record-breaking wonder.
The High Bridge Park, fondly thought of as the crown jewel of the Kentucky River Parks, is a place where bridge-loving folks can come and learn all about these impressive structures.
You'll find this gem at KY 29 and Old Park Road in Wilmore, KY.
The park features a pavilion with multiple overlooks offering million-dollar vistas of the Kentucky Palisades and Kentucky River Gorge, plus a playground, museum, and picnic facilities. It's handicap-accessible, too!
