Most fire tower hikes involve not only a pretty steep (and steady) incline, but also some major mileage to get there. But the Bernheim Forest Fire Tower Loop at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is only 0.5 miles long and takes under half an hour, making it one of the most unique and accessible hikes in Kentucky!

At over 14,000 acres, there is a lot going on at the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. But one of the easiest ways to see some of its highlights is the Fire Tower Loop.

Not only will this short loop be a lovely stroll with treetops overhead and in all directions, but because of its elevation, you’ll also get your blood pumping a little, which is always good for your health.

The views from the top the tower are truly lovely. On a clear day, you should be able to see the Louisville skyline.

Just be aware that the tower is not always open to the public. But even the views from the hill are enough to make this hike worth it.
Once you've had your fill of the fire tower and its views, the way back is very easy to follow. Just watch your step!

There are over 35 miles of trails here, so if you’ve got some more time after making it to the tower, consider taking another hike, like the 13.75-mile Millennium Trail or the 1.5-mile Iron Ore Hill Loop. Or just take a walk along the beautiful Lake Nevin.
