It’s a beautiful thing to have so much good eating with a wide variety of excellent restaurants in Kentucky. From down-home comfort foods to Kentucky barbecue to fine dining, we are fortunate to have it all here in the Bluegrass State! Finding a hidden gem with a marvelous menu that you want to rave about is especially fantastic. One small-town restaurant in Kentucky that’s especially worth visiting from is the aptly named Back Home Restaurant in Elizabethtown.
Thirty-five years ago, Linda and Tommy Fulkerson were selling antiques from the trunk of their car. Over time, their endeavors have grown into a boutique and restaurant that provides a wonderfully old-fashioned, comfortable dining and shopping experience.
When you enter, you’ll be treated to a lovely gift shop with antiques, treats, and home decorations. The stairs lead to a boutique with clothing, more antiques, and all sorts of charming goods you’ll want to take home with you.
The dining area is cozy and homey with ample table and booth seating available and there is plenty of patio seating during the warmer months. You’ll feel right at home at this cozy little restaurant!
There are plenty of tasty appetizers to start off with; choose from the creamy Sweet Onion Souffle Dip, old-fashioned Fried Green Tomatoes, or savory Fried Pickle Sticks... I recommend ordering several to nibble on while perusing the menu!
The eclectic menu fuses Southern standbys with a creative twist, like this delicious Fried Green Tomato Burger that features USDA beef, your choice of toppings, fried green tomatoes, and the signature Back Home sauce.
Few things are as comforting as this dish of Poppy’s Meatloaf with two sides. The gooey mac 'n cheese is to die for, as is the sweet potato casserole. Sweet Baby Carrots, Hash Brown Casserole, and other delicious dishes round out the "side" offerings.
Of course, it simply wouldn’t do to leave without some scrumptious dessert! This decadent Coal Miner’s Cake is delightfully rich, and there is a fine Peach Cobbler and Peanut Butter Pie that are sure to satisfy you. Dining here is always a treat.
