Sometimes an easy walk through the woods is just what the body needs and there are many scenic little spots throughout Kentucky that can provide this experience. If you’re traveling to Mammoth Cave National Park or happen to be passing through the area, consider a stop at Sloan’s Crossing Pond in Kentucky. This short boardwalk trail winds through the woods along the banks of the pond and is the perfect place for all ages to get some fresh air and stretch their legs for a bit.
The boardwalk trail around Sloan's Crossing Pond is a lovely little walk within Mammoth Cave National Park. While many people do not visit this area for what's above the ground, the park is actually filled with scenic hikes that are worth checking out.
This trail is a quick and easy way to stretch your legs if you've been traveling or if you just want to get outside for awhile. It's flat and is mostly made up of a boardwalk, aside from this stretch near the beginning.
The walkway then winds around the pond and through the woods in an area that offers a variety of plant life and wildlife. If you visit in the warmer months, be sure to bring some bug spray along, especially since you're near the water.
The walkway does not have open views of the pond throughout the whole trail, but it does have some spots where you can sit and enjoy this view. The rest of the trail has views between the trees and plants, which of course are more visible once the leaves have fallen.
And this is one trail that's definitely worth a visit any season of the year. The atmosphere changes as the leaves fall and then again when the snow arrives and then when the trees come back to their green lives in the spring.
