Sometimes the best food one can eat will be found in the most surprising places. If you drove by this place, you might think it was a quaint bed and breakfast, especially with a name like Holly Hill Inn. However, this Greek Revival-styled Inn with Victorian touches tucked away in the trees in a rural, small-town neighborhood is actually a restaurant with some of the highest-quality farm-to-table food in Kentucky that you’ll ever find. Welcome to Holly Hill Inn in Kentucky.
Surrounded by rural farmland in a quaint residential neighborhood in Midway, Kentucky is a restaurant whose culinary team has been repeatedly nominated for awards by the James Beard Foundation.
The building itself was constructed in 1845 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally Stevenson’s Tavern and was simply stone and brick. It’s gone through several transformations over the years and became a restaurant in 1979, but its current life as Holly Hill Inn began in 2001.
Customers are in love with the brunches here, like this tantalizing spread made with fresh produce, meats, eggs, and more which all come from local farms. A mimosa carafe makes it complete! This brunch is called the Bluegrass Brunch Smorgasbord.
The presentation of each dish is as much a feast for the eyes as for the taste buds! This is a king trumpet oyster mushroom risotto with fines herbs, grana padano, and calabrian chili puree. This is pure artistry.
The menu rotates through the seasons to ensure that every ingredient is fresh, locally sourced, in season, and of the highest quality. There is a vast array of wines to choose from and Holly Hill Inn won an award of excellence in 2021 by Wine Spectator.
Many restaurants might go with a simple pie for dessert, however, here you can get a Savory Mushroom Tart with chevre custard, crimini duxelles, and roasted black king trumpet and oyster mushrooms with a port wine reduction. Oh my!
