Versailles, Kentucky, is a magical place, best-known as home to the eponymous Kentucky Castle. But this royal attraction isn’t the only unexpected treasure in Versailles, as you’ll soon see with today’s featured destination. An upscale restaurant located in a former elementary school (and current vintage antiques gallery), The Glitz is an unforgettable, next-level dining experience you can only have right here in Kentucky.
Believe it -- because it's true! Welcome to Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques, a high-end antiques gallery in Versailles, Kentucky, that's home to the aptly-named restaurant, The Glitz.
Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques was established in 1972 by Bonnie and Arch Hannigan, and it was originally located in a different building. In 1984 when the Nonesuch Elementary School building became available, Bonnie set her sights on it and the Hannigans bought it and moved the family to Nonesuch, Kentucky.
As you can imagine, the renovation of the old schoolhouse was no easy feat. With the help of their design-savvy daughters, the couple embarked on the monumental task of remodeling the building and transferring their priceless inventory to the former schoolhouse.
Bonnie also had a dream of creating the perfect space for an antiques gallery as well as a high-end "tearoom" where ladies could lunch and lounge after an afternoon spent shopping.
At The Glitz, dining truly is an experience. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, guests are invited to come and enjoy a three-course prix fixe luncheon featuring dishes like Beef Wellington, Golden Harvest Bisque (served with fresh scallops), and Parmesan Baked Cod. Trust us: you've never had a meal like this before!
But don't mistake "upscale" for "uppity" -- this restaurant is all Southern hospitality and soul, all wrapped in a wholly unique, wholly wonderful package.
Did you know about this fine dining establishment located in a former Kentucky schoolhouse? Have you been to The Glitz in Versailles, Kentucky, before? What a bucket-list-worthy dining experience in the Bluegrass!
