I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Kentucky is horse country, and the eponymous Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington is a place that celebrates this quintessential part of Bluegrass culture. But what many don’t know is that you can actually camp overnight at this prized park in Kentucky! There’s a campground located on the rolling blue hills of the Kentucky Horse Park, and pitching a tent at this picturesque park is most definitely an experience that belongs on your Bluegrass bucket list.
Kentucky is known for its beautiful horses and the rolling blue pastures where they roam and run. The state is filled with fence-lined fields, each one more picturesque than the last, where majestic horses graze and gallop in a way that's truly magical.
This magic is celebrated at one of Kentucky’s most iconic attractions, the Kentucky Horse Park. Located just outside of Lexington (but in an idyllic area that feels quite rural and remote), the Kentucky Horse Park is the perfect day trip destination.
This unique theme park has something for everyone, young and old alike. From horseback rides and equine shows to a children's play area and historical plaques, the Kentucky Horse Park is a blue ribbon Bluegrass State destination.
Open year-round, this campground is especially popular in the summer, when folks can take advantage of the many amenities it has to offer: a junior Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, and more!
Reservations are recommended, but not required. Check-in is after 2 p.m., and check-out is by 12 p.m. the next day.
If you're looking to stretch your legs while you're here, check out the Legacy Trail, a 12-mile paved walking and biking path leading from the Kentucky Horse Park Campground all the way to downtown Lexington.
The Kentucky Horse Park is a bucolic slice of the Bluegrass that's so beautiful, you won't ever want to leave. And luckily, thanks to this glorious treasure of a campground, you don't have to!
