As the weather warms up, your mind – and appetite – may be dreaming of a good, old-fashioned ice cream cone. Local shops, stands, and dairy barns are opening up their doors again for seasonal treats, and a few of them require a little exploring. Burgin Dairy Barn is located near Herrington Lake and feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but this tasty destination is well worth the drive and is the perfect place to visit when those cravings hit.
Burgin Dairy Barn was a welcome addition to this area when it opened just a few years ago, and it’s perfectly located out of the way, yet still close to Herrington Lake. It's also near the historic town of Harrodsburg, so there is plenty to do in the area to warrant a visit for a meal and an ice cream cone.
The building that houses the dairy barn has an interesting history of its own - the photo below was snapped in the 1970s. In its prior life, you could stop by to fill up your gas tank and pick up some bait before hitting up the nearby lake.
But now, Burgin Dairy Farm is a beloved food and ice cream shop, and locals anxiously await its reopening each spring. It is already open for the season, and those banana splits are awaiting your arrival!
The dairy barn offers all sorts of sweet treats, including classic soft-serve cones, milkshakes, sundaes, and "Mixies" (like the cookie dough version shown below). Whether you're just in the area or visiting one of the attractions close by, any sweet tooth will be satisfied at Burgin Dairy Barn.
As great as the ice cream is, this destination is also known for its food. It's all a great value and the burgers are some of the best you'll find anywhere.
The menu includes chili dogs made with homemade chili, ribeye sandwiches, chicken, grilled cheese, and more. Don't forget to order some Cajun Fries to go along with whatever dish you choose.
If you’re looking for a healthier choice, the dairy barn also offers fresh salads. All of the food is quite impressive, especially from a remote, seasonal eatery.
If you arrive at Burgin Dairy Barn and find a line, don't turn around. A line means great food, sweet ice cream, and friendly service - and you'll find all of that at this charming Kentucky dairy barn.
Burgin Dairy Barn is a delightfully sweet stop in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky that will more than satisfy your ice cream and burger cravings. Did you know about this local gem? Share your experience with us in the comments!
