Editor’s Note: The Little Kentucky River Winery has permanently closed.
Many don’t think of Kentucky as a sought after destination for wineries, but our state actually offers quite a few local spots for delicious wine and a relaxing atmosphere. While many of these are out in the country and definitely worth a visit, there is one that is nestled right along the Main Street railroad tracks in LaGrange that is about as charming as it gets. The Little Kentucky River Winery is a winery in Kentucky that offers delicious wines, a fantastic seasonal menu, and unique views of the railroad tracks and active trains that chug right through this historic town.
The Little Kentucky River Winery has two locations and one is now nestled right along the train tracks in LaGrange.
This delightful little town is one of very few that has a train that actively runs right down its Main Street, in the middle of downtown. Many local shops and restaurants line this stretch of road and this winery is a must-visit stop when you are in the area.
The winery also has a farm location in Bedford, but don't miss out on a chance to stop by this unique destination.
You can taste a variety of locally made wines and they offer something for every taste. Try a tasting to sample several and don't forget to grab a bottle of your favorite to take home.
The specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and other menu items pair perfectly with their wines. The winery also offers catering, so keep that in mind for your next gathering.
If it's a nice day, be sure to grab a seat out on the porch that overlooks the train tracks.
Before or after your visit, take a few steps down the street and climb the stairs to the small tower that offers a great view of the town. Also, of course you'll want to stroll along the rest of Main Street to see all of the charm and history there is to experience in LaGrange.
If you'd like to try this winery in Kentucky in a different setting, there is also a farm location in Bedford, not far from I-71.
In the winter months it is open by appointment only, but you can call to arrange a visit. They also host private events and offer a B&B if you'd like to spend the night. Learn more about these options by emailing tweyler@gmail.com for information.
