Horse racing is a big deal in Kentucky, and it’s one of the things our state is known for. Often times, this sport can be associated with fancier outfits, events, and even meals, but that’s not always the case. Keeneland is arguably the most beautiful racetrack in the Bluegrass State and it’s a lovely place to spend a day. But you may be surprised to learn that it’s also home to the Track Kitchen, a racetrack restaurant that may just be the best-kept secret in Kentucky.
Keeneland is a picturesque racetrack in Lexington that attracts thousands of visitors each year for its races, sales, and other events. The property itself is worth a visit, but if you've ever been intimidated by the racing atmosphere, just begin your visit with a meal at the Track Kitchen.
The Track Kitchen is an unassuming dining destination on Keeneland's property. Here they serve up breakfast and lunch year round, and you can stop by for a meal, even if you are not attending a race or event.
Be careful not to drive right past this somewhat hidden restaurant, which looks like a ranch house from the outside. Dining here has become a tradition for many within the racing realm and outside of it, but countless Kentuckians have yet to discover this hidden gem.
The interior of the Track Kitchen resembles a cafeteria and is anything but fancy. It is not what you'd expect from an environment that typically welcomes ladies and gentlemen who are dressed in hats and suits and sipping bourbon cocktails.
The history of the racetrack is evident on the walls of the restaurant and adds plenty of character to the space. When dining here, especially for an early breakfast, you may enjoy your meal next to a jockey, owner, or trainer, and that's the beauty of this down-home little restaurant.
The food at the Track Kitchen is simple, scrumptious, and very affordable. Breakfast is served buffet style and includes all of the favorites. Their biscuits and gravy are especially delicious.
If you can't make it there early enough, don't worry - lunch is also tasty and gives you the same classic experience. The lunch specials are a great option and an outstanding value as well. They serve sandwiches and other choices that'll please any appetite.
The Track Kitchen is open year round, with extended hours during races and events. Check out the photo below for the hours, and if you're ever in doubt, give them a call at (859) 280-2449.
The Track Kitchen allows for the opportunity to enjoy an affordable breakfast or lunch and experience a classic Kentucky racetrack in the humblest and most delicious way possible. Did you know about this secret restaurant in the Bluegrass State? Have you dined there? Let us know in the comments!
