Rabbit Hash was originally known as Carlton, but had to change its name because it was too similar to nearby Carrollton.
With its position on the river, flooding has long been an issue in the town. It is said that a local once joked about having plenty of rabbit hash to eat, even when flooding occurred, and that moniker stuck. Now known as Rabbit Hash, the city continues to struggle with flooding today.

As if that weren't enough, the beloved general store also suffered from a devastating fire in 2016.
However, the town and many loyal friends worked together and rebuilt the historic Rabbit Hash General Store. It remains a favorite day trip and outing in the Bluegrass and hopefully will for generations to come.
