If you’re keeping a bucket list of restaurants that you absolutely have to try in Kentucky, it’s likely getting pretty long. But, be sure to save a spot for this quirky dive (pun intended, as you’ll see), in the heart of Louisville. Hammerheads is completely unexpected in the best ways possible with delicious food and a unique atmosphere. So, pull out that list and search for the Hammerhead shark – you’ll be glad you did.
If you've ever driven through the Germantown neighborhood of Louisville, then chances are you've noticed something a little out of the ordinary.
Off the beaten path and in the middle of a residential area, Hammerheads is famous for its memorable shark, hanging on the exterior of what appears to be a house. But this is actually a restaurant - a popular one at that - and it's also known for the incredible food that is served inside.
Since Hammerheads is obviously a small restaurant, tucked inside the basement of a house, your experience will be unlike any other eating establishment in Kentucky.
There's a good chance you'll have to wait for a table (they do not take reservations or calls ahead), but it's well worth the wait. The interior will remind you of the basements you hung out in as teenager, but with infinitely better food than the microwave popcorn of your past.

In fact, the innovative menu and unbelievable dishes are the most surprising thing about this neighborhood dive.
You may not know where to start when looking over the menu, but the friendly staff will be happy to help you out. Whatever you do, order a craft beer and these mouthwatering mac & cheese balls right away. They are heavenly.
The burgers are huge and impressively presented. Try the bison burger, pictured above, or the Garcia burger is the best veggie burger you'll ever try.
The house smoked ribs are also a favorite, and you must accompany them with the Grippo's fries. Yes, that would be french fries tossed in infamous Grippo's seasoning.
This local dive is a quirky basement restaurant that serves some of the best food around. Add it to the top of your bucket list and you'll thank us later.
Hammerheads is the local dive that everyone has to check out at least once. But once you’ve tasted the delicious food, we bet you’ll be back. Have you eaten at Hammerheads? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
