I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Most everyone likes to get out of the house once in a while, but there are those who prefer to avoid a crowd. Crowded places can be overwhelming at times, especially when the noise produced is deafening as well. Fortunately, there are some cool, less crowded attractions in Kentucky that people who prefer more solitude can enjoy.
Here are 10 soothing and less crowded attractions in Kentucky:
This beautiful park at 668 Loretto Road is the historic 1795 home of the renowned Senator John Rowan. It is also believed to be the inspiration of the "My Old Kentucky Home" composition by Stephen Foster. It is a peaceful place to visit with serene, well maintained grounds, offering visitors a chance to step back in time. Camping is also available.
This beautiful lake at 565 Kincaid Lake State Park Road makes a perfect get away. You can rent a cabin and just forget about the rest of the world for a while. Take a stroll in the woods or take a boat out on the lake for fishing or water watching. Whatever you do, you will find the peace and quiet make it a more special experience on these grounds.
This quiet lake is located off State Route 194 and makes for a perfect escape from the crowds of larger lakes. You can just relax and fish, boat, or take a stroll around the banks. The peaceful woodlands surrounding the lake are a great place to take a walk and gather one’s thoughts.
The beautiful Yahoo Falls off Kentucky 700 isn’t as big as the Niagara of the South, but it is a beautiful sight to see. The falls are located off Yahoo Falls Road, and the crowds tend to be absent, especially during the week. It is a serene walk up to the actual falls, but the entire journey is very scenic and relaxing. It is easy to find your Zen here.
These beautiful outside paintings are along Water Street/Jefferson Street to Washington Street. You will see a variety of different scenic murals depicting life in Kentucky and historical events in the US.
5. Visit Old Friends at Dream Chase Farm, Georgetown.
This beautiful horse farm at 1841 Paynes Depot Road is home to many a retired Kentucky Derby horse, stud and mare alike. This is the serene farm filled with rolling hills and lush grash where they will spend their remaining days grazing and enjoying life. You can stroll around and just enjoy the peaceful environment, and the company of champions.
This quiet waterfront park located from 100 to 199 E Veterans Blvd is a perfect place to watch the sunrise or the sunset. You can stroll by the water or find a comfortable spot by the trees to relax and gaze out over the water.
3. Visit the Abbey of Gethsemani, Bardstown.

2. Visit Carter Caves.
This isn’t the biggest cave system in Kentucky, but it is a beautiful park with relaxing scenery. Caving can be done in large or small groups, or you can explore the area alone. Video posted on YouTube by FLButterflyGirl.
1. Pineville Mountain State Park, Pineville.
You can rent a cabin at this beautiful park located along 1050 State Park Road. The park itself was opened in the 1920s.
