Kingdom Come State Park is perched on Pine Mountain, a long mountain range in southeastern Kentucky. The geology and history of the area are fascinating, and we highly recommend reading the sign in the park, shown below.
While the park does not have long hiking trails, it does have several shorter hikes that feature the beauty of the area. You can also connect many trails to make your adventure longer and more challenging.
Kingdom Come State Park is best enjoyed with a full day visit or as a weekend getaway. Be sure to take your four-wheel-drive vehicle along the winding Little Shepherd Trail road and definitely visit the easy hikes in Kentucky that can be found throughout the park.
The quick, uphill walk from the parking lot to the 12 O'clock Overlook is a must for the best sweeping views of the mountains and stretch of big sky. There's a picnic area at the parking lot, so bring lunch along and make this a resting spot during your visit.
The views from this overlook show the park and beyond as you look out over the highest points in Kentucky (nearby Black Mountain is the actual highest point in the state). There are several easily accessible overlooks along Pine Mountain and this is definitely a favorite.
This .5-mile trail features interesting formations and incredible scenery. You can access it from three spots, but we recommend heading there from the park's historic gazebo.
