As things begin to open up across Kentucky, many of our favorite destinations are opening their doors once again, or in some cases, their gates. Drive-in movie theaters may seem like a thing of the past (and not just pre-Quarantine), but there are actually many of these nostalgic places scattered around the Bluegrass. And as businesses are able to open up again, drive-in movie theaters in Kentucky are starting to pop up all over the state and while they may have a few restrictions, you can still enjoy a memorable movie night from your car.
The drive-in movie is a longstanding tradition and activity in the Bluegrass on those hot summer nights.
While most local drive-ins had to delay their opening this year, many are now welcoming guests for some good, old-fashioned fun. The Franklin Drive-In in Franklin, Kentucky, shown above, is one theater that is open and you can find out more information on their Facebook page.
Folks near Stanford can catch a movie at the Stanford Drive-In starting June 5th, so stay up-to-date on their Facebook Page.
One thing to keep in mind with all of these theaters is that they are not playing movies that are just now being released in theaters. Since many movies have been released in other ways over the past few months, you can expect to see movies such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Scoob, I Still Believe, and Trolls World Tour.
You may need to order your popcorn online or keep in mind that there is likely a limit of how many people can be in line at the stand. The best way to find out what your favorite theater is doing is to follow along with their posts on Facebook.
Most theaters are allowing you to sit outside of your car, as long as you remain next to your vehicle, and restrooms are open. Although there may be a few new procedures and guidelines to follow, an evening at the drive-in can still be the summer tradition in the Bluegrass that you know and love.
