I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Life is never boring in the Bluegrass State, as we have an abundance of activities to try. Those looking for once-in-a-lifetime adventures in Kentucky can try camping, caving, boating and horseback riding, just for starters. There are plenty of places to go and things to see, regardless of physical limitations. Our state offers something for everyone, all you have to do is look.
Here are 10 once-in-a-lifetime adventures in Kentucky:
10. Rusty Wallace Racing Experience

Nascar enthusiasts will LOVE this adventure at 1 Kentucky Speedway Blvd in Sparta. First off, you get to ride in a real racecar around the track, so if you like racing, it is a heavenly experience. The professional drivers explain what the ride will be like and they have a variety of unique cars, including an M&M car.
9. Visit a historic cemetery, like Frankfort Cemetery
Both these historic cemeteries are home to an abundance of Kentucky’s past, renowned individuals, and amazing monuments, including life size replicas. Cave Hill Cemetery at 701 Baxter Avenue in Louisville is the resting place of Colonel Sanders, the Frito Lay Magician, and most recently, Muhammad Ali.
You can take a vintage riverboat at 101 Riverboat Row in Newport. Patrons will have a choice of several different boats, each offering a different type of tour, meal and environment. Employees can tell riverboat enthusiasts about the history of the boats they ride and some unique stories about the area.
A lot of us have flown commercial airlines, but what about taking to the skies in a biplane? You can take a sky tour of Kentucky via an antique plane at 2700 Gast Blvd in Louisville, by appointment at 502-836-5252. Skilled pilots will fly you around the area where you can snap memorable images of the amazing scenery from a renowned view.
There is more to Mammoth Cave than over 400 miles of underground, connecting caverns and unusual formations. You don’t even have to go below ground to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the park. Water enthusiasts can rent a canoe or kayak and take a trip along the river for an entirely different type of adventure. You will see the beauty of nature and the life that inhabits the park. Rentals are available at 1240 Old Mammoth Cave Road in Cave City.
This venue at 1 Aquarium Way in Newport gives water enthusiasts an adventure on a WWII replica. This is a real all terrain vehicle, and once you climb aboard you will understand why. You get to cruise down the road and THEN splash across the Ohio River, without getting out of the vehicle. Plus, riders will hear some interesting history about this unique vehicle.
This adventure park at 2001 Hwy 90 in Corbin has places to relax and places to get adventurous. You can check out the rainbow mist adventure or zip through the air on one of the zip line adventures. The best way to enjoy the cool water and sunshine can be to fish, canoe, kayak, or raft.
If you like to go out for drinks but have concerns with sitting and sipping, there is a place you can sip and pedal. Come down to 100 East Main Street in Louisville and catch a ride on the roaming bar powered by the people. You can sip, swig, or chug your drinks and pedal all the while, so blood is constantly flowing. If you get a little tipsy, just hang onto your stool and let the rest of the crew pedal a while. The bartender will keep them coming.
Those looking for a little bit of Zen will find it at 400 E College Street in Georgetown. This relaxing oriental themed garden area offers the perfect atmosphere for meditation, Tai Chi, or just relaxing and gathering ones thoughts. You can take a serene walk around the beautifully landscaped area, watch or feed the fish, and just find your peace of mind. It’s a beautiful spot on the outskirts of town.
Don’t sit around bored during the beauty of summer, instead get out and experience some once-in-a-lifetime adventures in Kentucky. You will find activities with all levels of exertion, so don’t worry about limitations. If you are looking for entertainment outside the norm, check out this one awesome, but little-known activity.
