Kentucky is a state where you can drive endlessly through lush, green nature and you’ll find small, charming, quiet towns where time almost stands still. You won’t hear the honking of cars as people rush through their lives or hear sirens several times a day. Life is at a slower and calmer pace in these places. One of the most peaceful towns in Kentucky is Hodgenville, which was founded by Robert Hodgen, who built a mill here, and upon his passing, the emerging town was named in his honor.
In the very middle of town, you'll find a roundabout with this statue of Abraham Lincoln, across the street from the Lincoln Museum. This is the centerpiece of the town of Hodgenville, which is known for being the place where he was born.
This gorgeous and stately monument honors America's 16th President who is most famous for ending slavery in the United States. It marks the place where he was born and shares a history of his life.
Lincoln's boyhood home sits near the birthplace monument and visitors can walk inside and see the place where his earliest childhood memories were formed.
Hodgson is wonderful for antiquing, especially at Bennie's Barn Antique Mall which is located in an old, rustic barn that exudes country charm. The things you'll find inside will fill your new country home with character and whimsy.
It wouldn't be a Kentucky small town if it didn't have a place for some mouthwatering barbecue. Arrowhead BBQ is the place locals go to get smoky, juicy, delicious barbecue any time they like. It even delivers!
Hodgenville's downtown is walkable and wonderful, with cute little shops, delicious food, and not a billboard or skyscraper in sight. Even if you choose not to live here, it's definitely worth visiting.
Are you ready to pack up and live the country life in one of the best small towns in Kentucky? Hodgenville has just over 3,000 people, and if you ever find yourself in need of some city nightlife, it’s less than an hour from Louisville.
