Some would argue that most of Kentucky’s charming small towns are naturally beautiful with various rolling hills, farmland, waterways, caverns and mountains. And those people would of course be right because the Bluegrass State is simply gorgeous. But there are a few places throughout the state that are particularly special. In fact, one town calls itself a “Very Special Place,” and indeed it is. Dawson Springs is one of Kentucky’s most naturally beautiful towns and it will surely enchant you in the best way possible.
The town of Dawson Springs is ideally located in one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Kentucky.
As you can tell from this photo, when you are in town, you are very close to many exciting natural excursions. Dawson Springs was actually the first official Trail Town in Kentucky, so there are endless opportunities to get out and see the surrounding area firsthand.
Adjacent to Dawson Springs, you'll find one of the largest forests in Kentucky - Pennyrile.
This picturesque lake is perfect for fishing, swimming, relaxing and taking in the natural beauty the area offers. Water skiing is allowed in the Piney Creek portion of the lake, as well.
If you'd like to explore the area on horseback, check out the equine trail system within Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. You'll be amazed at the variety of landscape with sheer sandstone bluffs and rock-bottom streams.
The hiking in the area is some of the best in the state.
You can explore scenic streams, stunning overlooks and intriguing natural bridges. And you can find everything you need to head out on an adventure right in the heart of Dawson Springs.
Although the buildings in downtown Dawson Springs are manmade, this small town is still naturally charming and inviting.
