New places can often feel intimidating—especially ones that are quite eccentric from the outside. It can make you wonder what you’ll find on the inside. But rest assured that you should feel anything but intimidated when walking through the doors of Third Street Stuff & Coffee in downtown Lexington. This vibrant coffee shop has a loyal following but also beckons first timers and visitors to the city to give it a try. This friendly, welcoming shop in the Bluegrass State is a colorful oasis that is good for the soul and will surely satisfy with that first sip of coffee.
Located on the corner of 3rd Street and Limestone, Third Street Stuff & Coffee definitely stands out compared to its formerly dull facade.
Thirteen years ago, this charming coffee shop was born and it's grown in popularity ever since. The photos above show the transformation of the front of this historic building—what it looks like today versus the front in 1994.

But it's the other entrance to Third Street that tends to get a bit more attention.
When you walk up to the door, you know you're about to enter someplace special and unique. If it's your first visit, you'll want to take a few minutes reading the quotes and admiring the painting that decorates the entrance. And once you do go inside, you'll find just as much to love and experience.
Third Street is a friendly spot where you'll find students studying, moms with kids, those taking a break from work, and just about any and everyone else. That's one of its greatest features.
The interior is festive, fun and invigorating, yet still relaxing and cozy. Your eyes won't know where to look first, but they will likely make their way to a smiling staff member, eager to help you with your order. Throughout the interior, there are plenty of spots to sit with a group, on your own, by a window, in a corner—you'll find any type of atmosphere you desire at Third Street.
Aside from the ambiance, it's the coffee that keeps visitors coming back for more.
They serve locally roasted and Fair Trade Certified Organic coffee and you can taste the difference. Their menu is enticing and creative, especially around holidays with their unique creations. The baristas know their stuff and will accommodate whatever you are in the mood for. They also offer locally baked bagels and breads from Bluegrass Baking Co., and locally made sweets by Martine’s. You can grab a sandwich for lunch or a sweet treat to go along with your coffee or tea.
