I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
While Kentucky is known for bourbon, horses, and houseboats, few people realize that it is also home to one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Located within the wondrous wilds of Daniel Boone National Forest, Red River Gorge is the Holy Grail of outdoor recreation and adventure. Known as the “Grand Canyon of Kentucky,” Red River Gorge is a canyon system along the Red River in the eastern part of the state that’s immensely beautiful and truly one of the most amazing places in the country.
Located in Daniel Boone National Forest, Red River Gorge is a magical place any time of the year, offering some of the very best outdoor recreation in the country.
The Gorge is best-known for its incredible hiking trails, offering drop-dead gorgeous views of waterfalls, canyons, caverns, and other splendid natural features, like Natural Bridge. If you're looking for a hike that the whole family can enjoy, Natural Bridge is one of Red River Gorge's most spectacular spots and offers 10 hiking trails ranging from a half-mile to 7.5 miles in length.
Formed over millions of years, the park's eponymous sandstone arch stretches more than 75 feet long and 65 feet high. It's a scene sure to take your breath away.
The park draws upwards of 750,000 visitors each year, from seasoned outdoor enthusiasts to neophyte nature lovers. There's truly something for everyone at Red River Gorge.
For those into adrenaline-pumping adventure, a zip line tour is a thrilling way to experience the park. These tours are as exciting as they are scenic, providing a bird's eye view of one of Kentucky's most breathtaking natural wonders... all at an incredible 55 mph!
And for climbers, Red River Gorge is an epic challenge. Red River Gorge attracts climbers from all over the country who come to scale the park's iconic sandstone cliffs.
