Kentucky is home to all sorts of festive parades, from those that celebrate holidays to small-town gatherings to massive events that showcase larger-than-life balloons. Traditional parades are always a good time, but each summer Letcher County takes this event one step further by moving it to the water. The County’s 3rd annual Glow on the Pond takes places Saturday, August 11th, 2018, and this moonlit parade on the water is an event in the Bluegrass State that you’ll never forget.
Letcher County is a beautiful area in Eastern Kentucky that hosts many unique events throughout the year, many of which take advantage of the incredible natural surroundings.
At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 11th, the county will host the 3rd Annual Glow on the Pond at Fish Pond Lake. This picturesque lake is already a lovely destination, and during this event, it takes on a new level of appeal.
If you have a kayak and would like to participate, it's $10 to do so and you need only arrive with your kayak, paddle, and life jacket. Of course, as this is a nighttime floating parade, you'll want to make sure your boat is adorned with plenty of lights to guide your way!
If you're out on the water, it's a fun-filled evening of floating and paddling around the lake, with the moon and glowing boats creating quite the scene. There's a prize available for the best-decorated kayak, so don't be shy with your adornments!
Spectators line the bank of the lake with lawn chairs and blankets and watch as the lake slowly begins to glow with the parade of kayaks.
It's a relaxing, fun-filled evening for all involved, and just another unique way to experience Letcher County.
