When you plan a visit to Red River Gorge, you likely choose a few trails to try, maybe make plans to visit Miguel’s Pizza, and perhaps you’ve even booked an underground excursion. But if you want to get out on the water during your stay and have a unique and relaxing experience, check out the adventures to be had on Mill Creek Lake. Centrally located and ideal for families and even pets, you can kayak in Red River Gorge and add a new favorite tradition to your time spent in this scenic area of Kentucky.
Red River Gorge is known for its scenic hiking trails and towering rock walls, but there are also some really beautiful bodies of water. Mill Creek Lake is located near Natural Bridge, making it a great place to add to your itinerary.
You can see from the map below that the lake is centrally located. If you love to kayak but don't have your own equipment, you can still take advantage of this unique and lesser known activity in the Gorge.
Red River Adventure provides everything you need for a fun and relaxing time on the lake. They rent single and tandem kayaks and welcome children ages four and up, as well as your furry, water-loving friends.
Each rental gets you two hours on the lake, so it's easy to add this outing to your other adventures. They open for weekends in mid-April but are open every day throughout the summer, weather permitting.
You can book in advance by calling or emailing through the link provided below. If you plan on bringing the kids, a tandem kayak can fit two adults and a child.
The views from the lake are breathtaking and definitely different from what you'll see along the trails. Plus, you can give your legs a rest from hiking and work out those arms and back instead.
A peaceful two hours on the lake in the heart of Red River Gorge is a wonderful way to break up a day. If you're planning a visit or come to the area often, be sure to keep this adventure on your list of things to try!
